The public side is a game: you rate, the feed moves, and every week a top 10 goes into the archive. Here is how each part works.
What are Hot, New and Top?
Hot, New and Top are three ways to sort the same feed, from the bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Hot is the default. It weighs votes and freshness together, so the feed keeps moving.
- New shows the latest posts first.
- Top shows the most voted posts over a period: today, this week (the default), this month, this year or all time. Tap Top again to change the period.
Tap Hot or New again to jump back to the top of the feed.
How do I rate a post?
Tap the arrow on a post to vote for it, and tap it again to take your vote back. In the full-screen view you can also double-tap the picture.
You get one vote per post, and you cannot vote for your own. Voting works as a guest too: sign up to keep the posts you vote for from then on.
Where do I find the posts I voted for?
Every post you vote for while signed in is saved in My votes, in the menu, the most recent first.
Votes you cast as a guest still count on the post, but they stay with the device you used and do not follow you into your new account.
How does the ranking work?
Hot ranks posts by their votes and by how recent they are, so a new post can climb fast without waiting weeks for votes. An older post stays ahead only with clearly more votes.
Views play no part: a vote is the only thing that moves a post. That is also why a brand-new creator's first post can reach the top on its first day.
How does the weekly top 10 work?
Each week ranks the posts published that week by their votes, from Monday 00:00 to Sunday midnight, UTC. When the week closes, its top 10 is archived on the leaderboard for good, and a fresh week starts.
A tie goes to the newer post. Pieces kept in a backroom never compete. Past weeks stay one tap away on the leaderboard.
How do I find a creator?
Type at least two letters of her username in the search at the top of the screen (behind the magnifier on a phone).
You can also tap a name or an avatar on any post. Her profile shows her public posts, with a separate tab for videos, her links and the Follow button.
How do I use the full-screen view?
Tap any post to open it full screen. On a phone, swipe up or down to move between posts and pinch to zoom; on a computer, use the mouse wheel or the up and down arrow keys.
Close it with the X or the Escape key. Sharing has its own button, and the ⋮ menu holds Report post.
What do the badges on posts mean?
A New creator badge means her first post is less than 30 days old: a good moment to vote and say hello. On Hot, the best placed posts wear their rank, and videos show their length.
Creators see more badges about their own posts in their Insights: Posting and growing explains them.
